Thomas Oliver Muir, age 82, of Kentwood, passed away on Friday, June 18, 2021. Tom proudly served in the U.S. Navy and was stationed in Newfoundland during the Bay of Pigs (1960's) and served on an aircraft crash team. After he was discharged from New York, he lived at Lovet St., East Grand Rapids, and brought Diane, whom he met on a blind date, to MI in 1962. He worked at Rapistan for 35 years. Tom was a great do-it-yourself person and was a model railroader and train collector. He loved to boat on Lake Michigan, enjoyed repairing his own automobiles and rode motorcycles. His favorite automobile was a 1935 three window Ford coupe. He will be deeply missed by his wife of 56 years, Diane; and son, James Muir. He was preceded in death by his brother, Gerald Muir; and sister, Madelyn Brown. The family will greet visitors on Friday, July 16, from 10 - 11 am at St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church (1253 52nd St. SE,) followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 11 am, with Fr. Peter Vu as celebrant. Burial will be in Rosedale Memorial Park. Contributions in memory of Thomas may be made to Disabled American Veterans or the Wounded Warrior Project.
