James "Jim" DeVries, of Cutlerville, went to be with his Savior on Thursday, September 9, 2021, after nearly a year-long battle with cancer. He was 72 years old. Jim is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Carol; two children, James "Jamie" (Rebecca) DeVries, and Katie (Brian) Koster; his grandchildren, Ethan and Spencer DeVries, Chloe, Alyssa and Sadie Koster. He is the first of his generation to pass. His brother, Ken (Nancy); and sisters, Nancy (Jake) Koster, and Karen (Dave) Kloosterman; and his in-laws, Marlene Padding, Tom (Mary) Brink, Rich (Vickie) Brink, also survive him. Jim was an amazing husband, father, and grandfather. He loved to laugh, to spend time with his family and to learn. He designed homes as his primary occupation and was known as a talented and innovative professional. The Cutlerville and Grand Rapids metro area are dotted with evidence of his forty plus years of work. His legacy is not best described by his family or his work, however. Jim loved Jesus more than all of it. Each morning he would read scripture and he served many years as deacon and elder at his church. Most importantly, he taught his children and grandchildren about the sovereignty and faithfulness of God Almighty! The family will greet visitors on Monday, September 13 from 2 - 4 and 6 - 8 pm at Covenant Christian Reformed Church, 7171 Willard Ave, SE, where a service of remembrance and hope will be held at 11 am on Tuesday, September 14, with Rev. James De Vries officiating. Jim will be laid to rest in Blain Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Mel Trotter Missions or WCSG. Envelopes will be provided at the church.
