John S. Helder, age 91, of Kentwood, was called to his heavenly home on Tuesday, September 14, 2021. John was employed by CW Mills Paper Co, WJBL Radio and City Sign Company in Holland, Zondervan Singspiration, Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church in Fort Lauderdale, FL and Fuller Funeral Home in Naples, Fl. He sang with King's Choraliers for 18 years, was part of the founding board of Sunset Manor, managed Helder's North Bay Resort at Big Star Lake for 14 years, worked with the City of Kentwood Planning, and was a leader with New Community Churchman's Luncheon. He was preceded in death by his wife, Gertrude; all his siblings and their spouses, four brothers-in-law and three sisters-in-law. John will be lovingly remembered by his children, Karen Helder, Ronald Helder, Jim Eaton, Mary Van Noord, Robert (Cathy) Helder; five grandchildren, Lisa (Matt) DeHaan, Jonathan (April) VanNoord, Elizabeth (Jordan) Wheeler, Andrew (Nora) Helder, Jessica (Curt) Jennings; four great grandchildren, Emily, Kaitlyn, Owen, Alaina; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Delores Diekevers, Lillian Diekevers, June (Carol) Diekevers, Sharon (Nelson) Morren, Dennis (Dee) Diekevers, Pearl Diekevers, Marilyn Diekevers, and many nieces and nephews. A private family service will be held with Rev. Lew VanderMeer officiating. Interment will be in Rosedale Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Community Recovery, a Ministry of the New Community Wednesday Churchman's Luncheon, which was a ministry that John held dear for many years.  Please send condolences for the family to Stroo Funeral Home by mail or online at

I was so sorry to read about your Dad's passing. Having just run into you recently after he had successful surgery I was a little surprised to read this.
Your Dad and my Dad were such good friends, going back a long way - I trust they had a joyful reunion! You and your family are in my prayers.
