Helena Claudio Eugenio Westrate, aged 65, of Grand Rapids, went to be with her Lord on Friday, October 15, 2021.  Helena graduated with a nursing degree from Central Luzon Doctors' Hospital School of Nursing in Tarlac City, Philippines. After arriving in the United States, she obtained her nursing license in California, Arizona, and Michigan and worked for various hospitals and nursing homes in these states. Helena enjoyed gardening, running, cooking, baking, crocheting, and traveling with her husband, Ken. Her parents, Kayser and Soledad Eugenio; sister-in-law, Miriam Dewey; nephews, Kenneth Dewey and Jacob Barnes; preceded her in death. She will be lovingly remembered by her husband, Kenneth Westrate; children, Raymond (Nadine) Eugenio, Malia Eugenio; stepchildren, Kenny (Heather) Westrate, Tony (Allison) Westrate, Mary Westrate, Debbie (Tim) Stapert; 12 grandchildren; brothers and sister, Angelio (Corazon) Eugenio, Connie (Ferdan) Dacayanan, Kayser (Imelda) Eugenio; brothers-in-law and sister-in-law, Robert (Edwina) Westrate, David (Barbara) Westrate, Mark (Lee) Westrate, Robert Dewey; and many nieces and nephews. The family will greet visitors on Sunday, Oct. 24, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm at the Stroo Funeral Home, 1095 68th Street, SE. Funeral services will be held 11:00 am, Monday, October 25, 2021, at St. Mark's Episopal Church, 134 Division Ave, Grand Rapids, MI 49503. Consistent with the caring and giving spirit which characterized Helena, she and the family chose to donate her organs to help others. Contributions in memory of Helena may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
