Joyce Elaine Boerman, aged 86, of Byron Center, passed through heaven’s gate into the arms of Jesus on Friday, April 8, 2022. She now experiences the joy and love of God in her heavenly home. Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, John and Edith Wedeven and the love of her life, husband of 58 years, Lloyd; brothers-in-law Vernon, Dan, and Jack Boerman and Jerome Vander Slik. She will be lovingly remembered by her three children, Doug (Deb) Boerman, Eileen (Dick) Wolters, Char (Kelvin) Warren; six grandchildren, Diane (Christian Miles) Boerman, Dave (Melissa) Boerman, Andrea (Kevin) Jacobson, Alison (Eric) Solomon, Nick (Katie) Warren, Heath (LeighAnn) Warren; six great-grandchildren, Alex Boerman, Brian Jacobson, Teagan and Carter Solomon, Harper and Paisley Rae Warren; sister, Mary Vander Slik; sisters-in-law, Nancy, Viv, and Linda Boerman; brother-in-law, John (Sue) Boerman.  

Joyce graduated from Holland Christian High School with the Kuiper Bible Church History and Secretarial awards. She turned her office skills into a lengthy career at Photo Reporter, The Advance Newspapers, and ending with a rewarding 23-years at World Renew Disaster Response Services. Until she retired at the age of 77, Joyce was involved in coordinating relief for many natural disaster sites.  Joyce spent her retirement years volunteering at Buist Food Pantry and participating in many activities at Friendship Church. Joyce also loved traveling, gardening, and spending time with family, including making scrapbooks of their times together. At gatherings, her family could count on being entertained by her stories and the fun games she created.  

Relatives and friends may meet the family Wednesday, April 13 from 6-8 pm at Stroo Funeral Home, 1095 68th Street, SE. A memorial celebration of Joyce’s life will be held at 12 noon on Thursday, April 14, at Friendship CRC, 190 100th St. SE, Byron Center. Relatives and friends may meet the family from 11:00-11:45 am prior to the memorial service at the church. Private interment will be held at Winchester Cemetery.

Those who wish may make memorial contributions to World Renew Disaster Response Services or GEMS Group at Friendship CRC, or Faith Hospice.
