Ruth (Porterfield) Crandell was born January 12, 1930 in Lansing, MI to George and Ada (Walters) Porterfield. Ruth was a member of Grand Rapids International Fellowship, a church of the Nazarene. She went to be with Jesus April 11, 2022. Ruth married Richard Crandell September 10, 1960 in Lansing. She was a faithful, loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Ruth was graduated from JW Sexton High School in 1947 and as a Registered Nurse from Sparrow Hospital School of Nursing in 1951, both in Lansing. She served 46 faithful years in the nursing profession. Ruth loved her Lord, family, church and friends. She enjoyed traveling (eight different countries and several states,) reading, music and bowling. She is survived by her husband, Richard; son, Michael; daughters, Faith (Gary) Heffernan and Lisa (Ray) Bell; grandchildren, Jeremy (Amanda) Crandell, Jason (Arrianne) Crandell, Jason (Jennifer) Heffernan, Alyssa (Stephen) Smith, Autumn (Marcus) Zahran, Raymond (Rachel) Van Putten, Kasey (Michael) DeHoog, Madi and Kaelyn Bell; seven great-grandchildren-Bryce, Adelyn and Ellasyn Heffernan, Lauren Smith, Hannah and Hope Crandell, Ellie Mae DeHoog; and many nieces and nephews. Other survivors include sisters-in-law, Dorothy Smith, Joyce Numerick and Patsy Crandell. Ruth's parents; brother, Wesley (Doris) Porterfield and sister, Doris (Harold) Cole, preceded her in death. Funeral services will be at Grand Rapids International Fellowship, 3765 Kalamazoo Avenue SE, Grand Rapids, MI, Saturday, April 16 at 2:30 p.m. with Pastor Craig Dillman officiating. Visitation is one hour prior to the service. Stroo Funeral Home, Inc. is providing funeral services with burial in Floral View Memorial Gardens in Grandville. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Grand Rapids International Fellowship, Gideons International or Trans World Radio.
