Cornelius "Casey" VandenBerg, age 85, went home to be with his Lord on Wednesday, April 20, 2022, and is now reunited with his beloved wife and daughter. Casey was born on Wednesday, January 6, 1937, in Wyoming, Michigan to Frank and Minnie VandenBerg. He was a truck driver for Steelcase for many years. After retiring, he worked part-time for Masterpiece Flower Company. Casey was an active member of Rush Creek Bible Church, where he took great pride in caring for the landscape and mowing the lawn. An avid sports fan, Casey loved MSU, but was first and foremost the biggest fan and a great supporter of his family's events. Casey was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of nearly 59 years, Esther (Werkema); their daughter, Sherry McBride; brother, Jay VandenBerg; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Rev. Sidney and Lillian Werkema; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Donald Riemersma, Jack (Arlene) Werkema, Jacqueline Werkema, Lorraine (Ed) Bawden, Moe Mrozinski, Nelson Werkema. He will be lovingly remembered by his children, Randy (Vicky) VandenBerg, Kathy (Bryan) Drake, Shelly (Randy) VanEngen; son-in-law, Jeff (Terry) McBride; 12 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; sister, Martha Riemersma; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Carol VandenBerg, Gordon Werkema, Carol Werkema, Jeannie (Gord) VanHouten, David (April) Werkema; numerous nieces and nephews; and many friends including a special friend, Evelyn DeHaan. Visitation will be held from 5 - 8 PM on Monday, April 25, at Stroo Funeral Home, and from 10 - 10:45 AM on Tuesday prior to the service at church. The funeral service will be held at 11 AM Tuesday, April 26, at Rush Creek Bible Church, 2334 76th Street SW, Byron Center, with Pastor Gary Leyendecker and Pastor Mike Caley officiating. Interment will be at Winchester Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Rush Creek Bible Church. |
