Phyllis DeVries (VanDam), age 75, of Grand Rapids, went to be with her Lord on Sunday, July 17, 2022, and is now released from the burdens of Frontal Temporal Dementia. Phyllis graduated from Calvin University and The Ohio State University. Most of her career was spent in human resources, also teaching a class in Human Resources at Calvin. She and Lloyd wintered in Corpus Christi, TX for 19 years. Phyllis was always a person who liked to keep busy, and never met an art or craft that didn't interest her. Macrame, decoupage, photography, scrap booking, painting, and decorating each place they moved into. Another of her passions was antiquing, and of course could not pass up any garage sale. She and Lloyd loved following Calvin Basketball and attended many of their games including several national championships. She was also very involved with church activities and taught a number of different classes in Sunday School, as well as women’s groups. She became a Master Gardner in both MI, and later in TX. She was preceded in death by her parents, Elmer and Nella VanDam. Phyllis will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 54 years, Lloyd; sisters and brothers, Barbara (David) DeVries, Linda (Jerome) Perkins, Paul VanDam; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Gerald (Eileen) DeVries, Marvin (Sharon) DeVries, Clarence DeVries, Larry DeVries, Jean Wark, Dale DeVries; sisters-in-law, Fran DeVries, Alice DeVries; nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews. The family wishes to thank the staff of Rehoboth Oaks for the wonderful care they provided for Phyllis. Visitation will be held from 6 - 8 pm on Thursday, July 21, at Stroo Funeral Home. The funeral service will take place at 11 am on Friday, July 22, at Peace Church, 6950 Cherry Valley Rd, Middleville. Memorial contributions may be made to the Phyllis VanDam DeVries Scholarship Fund through Calvin University.
