Mr. VerStrate and his first wife Virginia watched me as a child from about 1 years old until I was about 10. I have very fond memories of Mr. VerStrate; or Grandpa, as I used to call him. I remember him playing with me, listening to stories on records, singing along to cassette tapes, riding on the lawn mower and sledding down the hill in the winter. I still have some of the cassettes he recorded for me. He was a sweet man and would almost always take time to play with me or just sit and watch the birds out the front window. As I got older I didn't need to be taken care of anymore and lost touch with him as life happens. He was sweet enough to come to my wedding 16 years ago and unfortunately, it was the last time I saw him. I will always remember him and my memories of that time with fondness and as my "Grandpa". Such a great soul will be missed. My prayers and thoughts go to the family in this difficult time, but hope the wonderful memories fill you with peace and love.
