Lavone Smith, age 75 of Grand Rapids, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, October 9, 2022, which was her 75^th birthday, after a brief illness with cancer. She was preceded in death by her husband, Russ; parents, Sid and Irene VanderWal; her brother, Wayne VanderWal; and brother-in-law, Richard Laman. She is survived by her children, Chris Smith and Melanie (Hiram Deleon) Smith; her grandchildren, Tony and Kameron; her siblings, Pat (George) Nobel, Ruth VanderWal, Louis (Jan) VanderWal, Lois (Mike) Wise, Ruth Laman; and many nieces and nephews. Lavone worked at Springbrook for 35 years as a nurse’s aide and as a crossing guard for many years. She loved her children and grandchildren; they were her whole world. She enjoyed her apartment, playing games, and having coffee and Bible study in the community room. Lavone enjoyed the friendships that were made.
