Ruth Ellen Tiesma, age 79, died peacefully on Tuesday, October 11, 2022. She was born to Wilson and Mable Seekman on October 18, 1942, and was a proud Grandville Bulldog graduate from the class of 1960, and attended Davenport University.  Ruthie loved playing cribbage, bingo, bowling, marbles, and placing two-bit bets for poker games.  She wholeheartedly loved God and was very faithful to her churches.  She loved to marvel at the wonders of God in nature, such as the beauty of butterflies, hummingbirds, and roses.  Fall was one of her favorite times, as that is when "God came down to paint the trees."  She loved being on Wolf Lake in Baldwin, searching for Petoskey Stones, and visiting the many beaches in Michigan such as South Haven and Ludington.  She was thrilled to live near Oval Beach in Saugatuck, which is "one of the best beaches in the world."  Ruthie was also known for her fabulous cooking and baking skills and taught these recipes to her family.  She would even sell these treats during the holidays.  Ruthie was a proud member of the Red Hat Society, a breast cancer survivor, and a TOPS member.  She also enjoyed driving the bus for Kentwood Public Schools for many years.  Ruthie is survived by her brother, Vic (Betty) Seekman; brother-in-law, Robert Van Zyll Sr.; and two daughters, Debra Horrell and Dianna (Carl) Teadt.  Ruthie has nine grandchildren, Mario, Zach, Alayna (Maurice), Tanya, Dom (Nichole), Katarina, Danielle, Matthew (Jamie), and Dean.  She has six great-grandchildren, Bryanna (Marty), Jasmine, Shaylin, Kyarrah, Roy, and Ella; and two great-great-grandchildren, Nevaeh and David.  She was also loved by many cousins and extended family.  Ruthie was preceded in death by her parents; sisters; son, David; and grandson, Mario.  Relatives and friends can visit with the family on Friday, October 21, 2022, from 11 AM to 12 Noon with a funeral service to follow at 12 Noon, at Ideal Park Christian Reformed Church, 320 56th St. SW, Grand Rapids, MI, 49548.  Ruthie will be buried in her family plot at East Drenthe Cemetery.

Ruthie and my mother, Idamae Lieverdink became friends when my mother noticed the cribbage player bumper sticker. They spent a lot of time talking and playing cribbage, before my mother passed away in 2016. I visited Ruthie many times after, eating out, talking and helping her with odds and ends while she has been in rehab for a broken leg.
