Donald “Don” J. DeMann joined Jesus in Heaven on Friday, October 28, 2022 at the age of 84. Don passed away peacefully at home overlooking his beloved Barlow Lake surrounded by family and friends after a brief battle with colon cancer. Don was born to Foster and Florence DeMann on May 17, 1938 and grew up on the family farm in Martin, MI. He was wild at heart with a huge spirit for the outdoors, sharing his greatest memories of hunting, fishing and adventuring with his closest kin. Don proudly served his country through the U.S. Army and worked at General Motors for 41 years as a machine repair journeyman. He procured many more memories throughout his life and into his golden years with his wife of 63 years, Eleanor “Ellie”; his three children; Sandy (John) VanDeWeert, Randy (Laurie) DeMann and Lauri (Mark) Veneman; his beloved 11 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren; his brothers and sister, Dale (Marilynn) DeMann, Carl (Judy) DeMann and Betty (Phil) VanNoord and sister-in-law, Karen (Jim) Winkel. For The last 21 years, Don and Ellie spent the winter months in Okeechobee, FL, enjoying the sunshine and the sport of fishing. He was an avid gardener and always maintained an immaculate yard. Don loved to tinker, work on projects, shoot the breeze and if he liked you enough he would share a Busch Light or two. He was a helpful neighbor and friend, a loving husband and father and a proud Gramps. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 1, from 6 - 8 PM at Stroo Funeral Home, and on Wednesday, November 2, prior to the service from 10:45 - 11:45 AM at Peace Church. The funeral service will take place on Wednesday at 12 PM, in the chapel at Peace Church, 6950 Cherry Valley, Middleville, with Pastor Bob Hudberg, officiating.
