Andrew was born in Chicago, IL on August 3, 1936, the fifth of eleven children born to Thomas Howard and Cora Jackson. Andrew grew up in White Cloud, MI, and graduated from White Cloud High School. He attended Albion College and Ferris State University, earning his Bachelor Degree, before continuing on to Michigan State University, where he earned his Master's and his Education Specialist Degrees. As a teacher, Andrew taught at Tri-County Public Schools in Howard City, MI, and Big Rapids Public Schools. He went on to serve as a school administrator at Kentwood Public Schools. In addition to being a dedicated educator and pastor, Andrew was also a talented singer, and often served as a soloist in the life of the church. A significant part of Andrew's ministry for both him and his family was their involvement in the Lake Louise Camp Community, where Andrew loved serving as a camp counselor for the senior high youth. Later in his ministry, Andrew served as a chaplain for the Michigan State Police, and also enjoyed filling the pulpit in several area churches. Andrew will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Phyllis; children, Thomas Jackson, Diane Jackson - Symes and her husband, Shannon Symes; granddaughter, Alivia Neary; grandson, Jaxson Symes; and sister, Hannah Mae Jackson. Ralph Boudreau (MSP Retiree)
I was sad to read of the death of Andy. We served on the Board of Ordained Ministry together and I grew to appreciate Andy’s careful wisdom and insight that he offered. Since moving to Grand Rapids, whenever I saw the Jackson’s, their genuine care, warmth and affirmation was always appreciated. My prayers are with you all in this time of grief.
Ferris State. Both good men. We were lucky.
God be with them both. Much love to your family.
It was a privilege to serve with him. His door was always open and it was so easy to confer with him.
However, what I admired most was his commitment to his Lord. Andy reflected Jesus and I was most grateful for his example. Praises that he is with the Lord!
