Albert Manwarren Port Jr., who was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and friend was called to his heavenly home at the age of 83, Tuesday, November 15, 2022, after a courageous battle with cancer.  Al was born to Albert Sr. and Dorothy Port in North Muskegon, MI on September 2, 1939.  He graduated from North Muskegon High School before attending and graduating from the University of Michigan.  After graduating from college, he went to work for Westinghouse, which took him to Pittsburgh, PA, where he met the love of his life, MaryAnn.  They married on April 4, 1970, and soon moved to Lima, OH.  Al and MaryAnn moved to Kentwood, MI, in 1980 with their 2 children, Suzanne and Christopher.  Al continued to work for Westinghouse (Knoll) and retired from there after over 40 years of service.  He found enjoyment both in gardening and golfing.  He took great pride in designing and caring for his garden.  As many can attest, his golf game was never a fast-paced one, but enjoyed a relaxed game with friends and a cold beer afterward.  Al is lovingly remembered by his wife of 52 years, MaryAnn (Katus); children, Suzanne (Patrick Noonan) Port, Christopher (Renae) Port; grandchildren, Emersyn, Elliot, Ainsley, Aubrie; brother, John (Nancy) Port; many nieces and nephews.  The family wishes to extend a special thanks to the dedicated staff of the Cancer and Hematology Center of West Michigan, the staff from Spectrum Health Hospice and to the incredible caregivers at Railside Assisted Living Center where he lived for the last year and a half.  The family will greet relatives and friends on Sunday, November 20, from 4 to 6 PM at Stroo Funeral Home.  The memorial mass will be celebrated at St. Paul Apostle Catholic Church, 2750 Burton St. SE, Grand Rapids, MI, 49546, Monday, November 21, at 11:00 AM with Fr. Peter Damian as celebrant.  Interment will be in Blain Cemetery.  In his memory, donations can be made to Maguire's Purpose, a non-profit organization designed to help children and families that are affected by special needs.  Al's grandson has autism, so he has a strong connection to this cause.
