Virginia A. Toering, (Stroo, Ten Elshof), age 87, went to be with her Lord on Tuesday, February 14, 2023, and is now playing and singing in her heavenly home. She was preceded in death by her husband Clarence "Ted" Toering; and parents, Abe and Hermina Stroo. She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Nancy (Terry) Crumback, Dale (Christy) Ten Elshof, John (Janet) Ten Elshof; Ted's children, Sharon Blickley, Alan (Lisa) Toering, Wayne (Teresa) Toering, Monica Brew; 26 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; sister, Ruth VanderWerf; brothers, Dr. William Stroo, Paul (Mari) Stroo; brother-in-law, Roger (Nancy) Ten Elshof, sister-in-law, Jan (Wayne) Weller and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Virginia lived in Michigan until she and Ted made Lake Wales, Florida their home in 1988. She returned to Byron Center, Michigan in 2017. Virginia was an accomplished musician, playing piano, organ, and clarinet her whole life. She was an incredible accompanist, gave countless children piano lessons, directed the Songbirds Choir at Saddlebag Lake, and continued to play at Byron Center Manor for church services and with Nancy, who entertained there regularly. In 1974, she and Ted married and began the adventure of blending their families. She and Ted ran the Golden Onion Restaurant at Sandy Pines for many years, catered numerous weddings and events, and were always inviting guests home to feed them. In Florida, she worked as a volunteer and CNA at the Lake Wales Hospital, served as a first responder in her resort, and served others through her caring ministry wherever she was. Virginia knew how to make you feel welcome, and it didn’t take long for a stranger to become a friend. She had a beautiful smile, a fun sense of humor, a caring heart, and a love for the Lord which she shared with everyone. God’s timing is perfect. He is in control. Great is Thy Faithfulness. A visitation and celebration of her life will be held at the Stroo Funeral Home, 1095 68th Street, SE, Grand Rapids, on Saturday, April 29. Visitation will be from 1:45 to 2:45 PM, with the service following and beginning at 3 PM. Pastor Dan Kroeze will officiate. Interment will be in Florida National Cemetery. Contributions in memory of Virginia may be made to the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation https://takesteps. |
