Gordon R. Werkema of Grand Rapids, MI passed away on March 26, 2023, at the age of 86. He had been in declining health for some years.

Throughout his adult life, Gordon was unfailingly supported by his devoted wife of over 60 years, Jacklyn; who passed away in January 2021.

Gordon was also predeceased by his caring daughter Susan Gwen Werkema and by his dear siblings Jack, Esther (Vanden Berg), Lorraine (Bawden), and Nelson.

He is survived by his daughter Nancy Lynn Haas and sons Gordon R.G. Werkema, Mark A. Werkema, and Joel Werkema; by their spouses and children (and his great-grandchildren); by his sister Jeanne Van Houten and brother David Werkema; his brother- and sisters-in-law; and by many nieces and nephews.

Gordon was born in Zutphen, MI, and attended Calvin College and the University of Denver, where he earned a doctorate in education, and spent most of his career in administration of Christian schools and colleges in many different parts of the country before returning to Grand Rapids in 2001.

Interment will be private, with family. A joint memorial service for Gordon and Jacklyn (who passed away during pandemic restrictions) is anticipated in the future.
