John Dewey, age 100, of Byron Center, went home to be with his Lord on Saturday, July 22, 2023, and is now reunited with his wife, Liz; son, Fred; and many siblings. John was born in 1922 in the Netherlands and immigrated to Michigan as a young boy. He proudly served in the U.S. Army during WWII. After owning and operating a hardware store in Wayland, he went on to become an electrician and served as an electrical inspector for the city of Wyoming until retiring in 1985. He will be lovingly remembered by his children, Tom and Shirley Dewey, Peg and Dick Zuidersma, Jack and Vonnie Dewey; 11 grandchildren; 33 great grandchildren; and 19 great-great grandchildren; brother, Jack and Joyce Dewey; and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 27, from 10 - 11 am at Stroo Funeral Home (1095 68th St. SE) where the funeral service will begin at 11 am, with his grandson, Mark Dewey officiating. Interment will be in Hooker Cemetery, Leighton Township.
