Freda was born on August 24, 1928 on a farm in Lucas, Michigan to Albert & Jennie Meyering. Her siblings were Al, George, Les, and Beth. She spoke Dutch at home and learned English in school. Freda’s father died of pneumonia when she was 8 years old. She helped her family by caring for her “baby sister”, washing dishes and clothes, and cooking. Her mother and brothers did the farm work.

Freda’s family sold their farm in 1950 and moved to Grand Rapids, MI. She married the love of her life, John “Charlie” Kamphouse, in 1953. They were married for 55 years before Charlie passed away in 2009. They were blessed with two daughters, two sons-in-law, five grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.

Freda worked for many years as a special education teacher’s aide for the Grand Rapids Public Schools. She liked taking walks, finding bargains, reading, helping at her church (Princeton CRC), and babysitting her grandchildren. She loved God and her family.

Freda lived a life of gratitude to God and others. She was kind, cheerful, caring, generous and loving. She will be greatly missed by her loving family - children: Joy & Dirk Jasperse and Ruth & David Van Der Wiele; grandchildren: Tyson & Elyse Jasperse (Charlie & Mac), David & Emily Jasperse (Jane & Ezra), Mark Jasperse, Rachel & Mike Goorhouse (Lucas & Ana), and Julie & Lamar Brown (Amelia & Zoe); sisters-in-law: Annette (Meyering) Rosema, Carole Meyering, June Kamphouse, and Mildred Grygiel.

Freda was received into the arms of Jesus on Friday, November 3, 2023. She was 95 years old. She was so thankful for God’s amazing grace, care, and love in her life. Her faith in her loving Savior, Jesus Christ, sustained her in the challenges and the blessings in her long life. “Well done my good and faithful servant.” (Matthew 25:23).

The Funeral Service will be held 11 AM, Wednesday, November 8, 2023, at Third Christian Reformed Church, 10 W. Central Ave., Zeeland, MI, with Rev. Mark Timmer and Rev. David VanDerWiele officiating. The Committal Service will be held Thursday, November 9, 2023 at Ft. Custer National Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to Calvin University, World Renew, and Hospice of Holland.
