Modiesteen (Alexander) Mickens

(May 20th, 1941 - May 29th, 2024)

Modiesteen (Alexander) Mickens of Kentwood, MI, formerly of Gary, IN, passed away on Wednesday, May 29, 2024. She was preceded in death by her husband, Eddie Mickens; father, General Alexander; mother, Annette Flemings; stepmother, Ilee Alexander; brothers, James and Willie Bell Alexander; and her sister, Inez Fountain. Modie will be lovingly remembered by her children, Charlotte (Steven) Morton, Christopher (Ella) Carter and Cedric (Scott) Carter; grandchildren, William Coutee (Scarlett & Kayden), Michael Beard, (Skylar & Cameron), Delanyce Rose, Christopher Carter Jr., Joshua Carter; sister, Nora Lee Estes; brother, Bobby Alexander; cousin, Doris Knox; niece, Anne Holland; and close friend, Betty Wilson.  Modie was a retiree of the US Steel Mill.  Some of her favorite activities include, but are not limited to fishing, playing cards, going to the casino, bowling, playing video games, dancing, traveling, throwing the BEST block parties ever, but more importantly, spending quality time with family and friends. The family wishes to thank everyone for their support during our bereavement, those who sent flowers, cards and gratuities. The family will greet visitors on Monday, June 24, from 10:00 am - 11:00 am at Stroo Funeral Home, 1095 68th Street, SE, Grand Rapids; where a service to celebrate her life will begin at 11:00 am.  The family will gather immediately afterwards for a luncheon.
