Norman E. DeNooyer, age 89, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, on Monday, July 8, 2024. Norm honorably served his country in the US Coast Guard and went on to work as the Vice President of the family business, DeNooyer Chevrolet, until 1975. Norm had a heart for spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ. Norm was ordained as an evangelist after completing courses at Reformed Bible College. He spent many years as a partner of Alger Park Christian Reformed Church, along with the community at large. Norm enjoyed many long-term relationships and nurtured a discipleship ministry for 49 years. He graduated from Calvin College with Honors in 1957. In his younger years, he was captain of every sport he played: football and baseball. As he got older he liked to watch bowling, golf, and the Detroit Tigers. He also enjoyed listening to barbershop and gospel quartets. Norm will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 66 years, Helen; children, Randy (Carol) DeNooyer, Dan DeNooyer, Sharon (Bruce) Katje, Mark (Trudy) DeNooyer; grandchildren, Tyler (Tessa) DeNooyer, Collin DeNooyer, Mitchell (Jayleen) DeNooyer, Jessalyn (Tyler) Odell, Carissa (Joe) Knapp, Anneka Katje, Kristyn (Pablo) DeNooyer Garcia, Josiah DeNooyer, Brielle DeNooyer; great grandchildren, Hadley DeNooyer, Raylinn Garcia; brother, Donald DeNooyer, sister, Marge Kool; sister-in-law, Betty (Ken) Frieswyk; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and Ted Newhof; sister-in-law, Ann DeNooyer; brother-in-law, Preston Kool; and nephew, David DeNooyer. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 17, from 5 to 8 pm at the Stroo Funeral Home, 1095 68th Street, SE and on Thursday, July 18, from 11 am to 12 noon at Alger Park Church. The funeral service will be held at 12 Noon on Thursday, July 18, 2024 at Alger Park Church, 2655 Eastern Ave. SE, Grand Rapids, with Pastor Norm Thomasma officiating.
