In loving memory of Bruce Harold Lemke, born on October 7, 1955, to Harold and Caroline Lemke, who have preceded him in death. Bruce walked into heaven with restored health and vitality on Sunday, July 6, 2025, with his wife by his side. Bruce was a gentle man with a kind spirit, never one to seek the center of attention, glory or fame. Bruce was a truck driver for most of his life and safety was a top priority for him. He accomplished 2 million miles of accident-free driving during his career. Bruce suffered a severe and debilitating stroke on March 11, 2017, the day of his daughter’s wedding. This changed Bruce and Laurie’s life, and the focus was on healing and coping with day-to-day tasks that most take for granted. Bruce never complained about his disabilities and made the best of each day God granted him. One of his favorite things was sharing an ice-cream sandwich with grandson, Charlie. Bruce had a love for all the old westerns and his Louis L’Amour books. Most highly valued were the people he loved, his wife of 47 years Laurie Jo; son, Adam Lee, and Justin Edward Lemke; his daughter, Holli-Noelle Caroline (Jeff) Dueck; two adorable grandchildren, Charles Torolf, and Eloise Susan Dueck; brothers, Dennis (Dee) Lemke, Richard (Christine) Lemke, Brian Lemke; sisters, Sue (Robert) Marsh, and Beth (Wick) Fogg; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Rick (Lisa) Van Houten, Vicki (Dean) Heetderks, Kathy (Curt) Fryling; many nieces and nephews. Special thanks and gratitude given to his caregiver, Sharon Koopman and friend, Wayne Westfield for his faithful visits. The family welcomes visitors on Thursday, July 10, from 7 to 9 PM at Covenant CRC. The funeral service will be held at 11 AM, Friday, July 11, with a one-hour visitation prior to the service from 10 – 11 AM at Covenant Christian Reformed Church, 7171 Willard Ave. SE, Grand Rapids, 49548, with Rev. Evan Heerema officiating. Interment will be in Blain Cemetery. |
