David A. Schaap, age 82, of Grand Rapids, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, was reunited with his family in the presence of the Lord in heaven on Friday, October 10, 2025. A U.S. Army Veteran, David was a patriot who served his country during the Vietnam War. Along with his brothers, he owned and operated Curious World Pet Stores for over 25 years. He was an avid sports fan and a relentless jokester. Family was of the utmost importance to him and he loved spending time with them. He was preceded in death by his brothers and sister, Raymond (Earnestine) Schaap, Geraldine (Jack) Tiemeyer, and Calvin Schaap. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 48 years, Pat; daughter and son-in-law, Victoria and Rob Young; his beloved granddaughters, Gabriella, Sophia, and Elena; sisters-in-law, Susan Martin, Judi Bonczyk; and several nieces and nephews. The family will greet visitors on Monday, October 13, from 6 - 8 pm and Tuesday, October 14, from 12 noon - 1 pm at Stroo Funeral Home, 1095 68th St. SE, where the funeral service will begin at 1 pm, with Rev. Mark Heijerman officiating. Interment will be in Blain Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Michigan Veteran Homes at Grand Rapids.
